Gratitude | The Bookmaker’s Note 5/4/21

Writing log: TBN +590 words

Yesterday at dinner with the family I announced that I was accepting donations; for every 10 dollars I got, I would order a copy of The Monksville Chronicles and stash it somewhere in the state park. I was met with sideways glances and nervous ticks, not a single word was spoken. The rest of dinner was quiet; when I was cleaning up the food, my dad tossed me a 10 spot and said Here ya go, kid as he walked off into the sunset. Later on I knocked on my brother’s closed bedroom door and asked if it was a no from him; he gave me some bills and left his door open. A couple friends are buying copies too, bless their hearts, and I placed the order yesterday. 4 books and 40 bucks, some of which is profit. Lemme put it this way: I wrote in my gratitude journal last night.

So today I missed the family dinner. Had to get out in the woods, I was inside all day working not as hard as I should have been and I needed to get into the woods before the night fell. Mah left my place set at the island, left the raviolis out with the sauce and the mozz sticks and the homemade garlic knots she does with the storebought pizza dough, bless her heart, and as I was eating she gave me a pair of 5s for another book. Hell yeah. I’m gonna use it to order a copy of Flowers instead of The Monksville Chronicles because I don’t currently own a copy of Flowers. Shit used to be a little rocky with the family, it all smoothed out though. I’m very thankful for that.

I more than doubled my progress on Over the River today. Figured some stuff out about the plot of TDI, too, very much looking forward to putting that one together. It’s going to be a big one, I feel. Might not be, but it certainly might be at the same time. Time will tell. TDI is going to stay in the notetaking phase until either ANATH or the Godspace project is done, possibly until both are done. I don’t know. I want to keep y’all informed as much as possible but a lot of this is guesswork and shit changes all the time. These 3 projects are coming, though. 100% for sure. They’ll all come after Over the River is out, which will be whenever it comes out. Some time Q2 for sure. If July comes and Over the River isn’t released I’m going to be surprised. I’m sprucing the text up a lot right now, this 6-readthrough editing process might be the move. The manuscript is at a point where I could… well, the text is all in Scrivener still, but were I to copypaste it into Word I could probably get away with putting it out as is. I think I have put out books less deserving of release than Over the River in its current state. I’m going to give it the full 6 readthroughs though. Over the River is worth that to me. The text is so demented that I feel the need to do it absolutely right, you know what I mean? I feel an obligation to do right by this book. And so I shall.

This has been today’s The Note. I very much enjoy referring to this series as The Note.

If you’re there, hypothetical reader, thank you for being there. From this day on, we move forever forward~
